Season Ticket Holder Wins $100,000 from Hoosier Lottery Scratch-Off
(May 30, 2013) – As a high school math teacher, Holly Vogel knows a little something about odds. She knows she defied them to win $100,000 on a Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off that she received for free at a Fort Wayne Mad Ants basketball game in March.
Vogel, who has been a Mad Ants season ticket holder for three years, was sitting in a section of seats at a Mad Ants home game at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum that was selected as a Hoosier Lottery Lucky Section back in March. Every fan age 18 and older in the section of 80 to 100 fans received a Hoosier Lottery prize pack containing free Scratch-offs. The particular prize pack that landed in Vogel’s hands contained a $100,000 Taxes Paid ticket that turned out to be one of the game’s six $100,000 top prize winners.
Vogel, who has never even purchased a Hoosier Lottery ticket, claimed her prize Tuesday after discovering her win over the Memorial Day weekend when she stumbled across the prize pack while cleaning out her car. She scratched the ticket and, like most winners, was shocked to see the $100,000 prize appear. Like most winners, she was also skeptical of the ticket’s legitimacy.
“This can’t be real!” said Vogel as she claimed her winnings Tuesday at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters.
As for her winnings, the second-year math teacher has big plans.
“It will help pay for my wedding in February and make a good down payment on a house,” said Vogel.
The odds of winning one of the game’s six $100,000 prizes are 1 in 530,766.67. Vogel won on the $100,000 Taxes Paid game, so she walked away with a full $100,000 because the Hoosier Lottery pays the taxes on the game’s top prizes.
