News release from the Historic West Main Street Farmer’s Market:

The Historic West Main Street Farmers Market opens Friday

(May 7, 2013) – The Historic West Main Street Farmers Market is celebrating 5 years of serving the Fort Wayne community with fresh local produce with our season opening on Friday, May 10, 2013 from 3-8 PM at 1936 West Main Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46808. The market is owned and operated by the Nebraska Neighborhood Association.

The market will continue to provide area residents the very best in local produce, Indiana produced foods and local arts and crafts with a renewed emphasis on the following:

#1 Accessibility to locally grown foods for those individuals receiving SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, formerly known as food stamps. Our market is the only market in NE Indiana to offer customers the ability to shop for local and nutrituous foods market-wide utilizing their EBT SNAP benefits.

#2 A venue for any local non-profit that serves our community to setup a booth and interact with a very loyal and conscious consumer group.

#3 Promotion of local performing groups, musicians and artists who create and enrich the cultural environment of Fort Wayne.

We expect 2013 to be a great year at the market and look forward to seeing our community on Friday’s throughout the summer.
