News release from Regional Dance America:
Regional Dance America Brings Elite Dancers, Prestigious Festival to Fort Wayne
Regional Dance America is pleased to announce that its Mid States Dance Festival will be held in Fort Wayne May 1-5 at the several downtown venues.
Over 400 elite dancers from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan, North and South Dakota, Colorado and Canada will be attending workshops and master level classes taught by nationally and internally renowned faculty.
This festival will provide educational and performing opportunities for students with a serious commitment to their arts education; networking opportunities for directors, faculty and colleges from across the United States; and will bring together faculty who are recognized as some of the best in their chosen fields of ballet, modern, jazz, nutrition and dancer health.
Internationally acclaimed choreographer, Kathryn Posin, is the festival director/adjudicator. The Sofia National Ballet of Bulgaria recently performed Posin’s European premiere of Scheherazade. She has choreographed over 50 works and has been supported by the Guggenheim Foundation, The New York State Council of the Arts, The National Endowment of The Arts and the Jerome Robbins Foundation.
All festival activities will be concentrated in downtown Fort Wayne: The Marriott Courtyard, Arts United Center, FW Dance Collective and the University of Saint Francis Performing Arts Center.
Three evening performances, May 2,3,4, will be open to the public. This will be a unique opportunity for our community to see some of the best dancers in the nation. All evening performances will be held at 7:00pm at the University of Saint Francis Performing Arts Center (PAC). General public performance tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the (PAC) ticket office the evening of the performances.
With over 400 dancers, families, judges and visitors, the five-day event will bring in an estimated $241,310 in economic impact to Fort Wayne. The New American Youth Ballet located in Fort Wayne is the host company for this festival.
