News release from the Downtown Improvement District:

Last Saturday of February Highlighted with Music

(February 19, 2013) – Music lovers will enjoy downtown Saturday evening with a wide variety of live performances including Down the Line with classic rock at the Embassy Theatre, jazz at the Gashouse or Club Soda, an electronic show at the Dash In and acoustic pop with The Bergamot at C2G Music Hall. If that’s not enough variety, there are more groups playing at JK O’Donnell’s, Pembroke Bakery, Columbia Street West, Calhoun Street Soup Salad and Spirits and the Brass Rail.

There are a variety of activities for residents to “Experience Art. Discover Downtown.” Many Last Saturday activities are free or offered at a discounted rate. The Cultural District of Fort Wayne is a hub of activity every weekend but the Last Saturday is deliberately full of artistic experiences for a variety of interests.

During the day, families can enjoy one of the last weekends at the Headwaters Ice Rink or visit the Botanical Conservatory, History Center or Science Central with special discounts. Art lovers can see the Regional University Exhibition at Artlink or the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. FAME is offering a Fusion of Concert Colors, working with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and having children listen to a music selection and create their own artwork inspired by the music.

Options for dance enthusiasts include the Fort Wayne Ballet presenting Folk Tales in the morning and the Mikautadze Dance Theatre will take place in the evening. For those who write or read, Dr. Rinehart will give a free lecture about her new book, sponsored by ARCH. Film lovers can see Hitchcock on the Cinema Center big screen or The Dead Will Rise 2 at the Midnight movie.

Along with Arts United, Visit Fort Wayne, and the City of Fort Wayne, the Downtown Improvement District continues the Last Saturdays concept as an opportunity to promote community arts and cultural assets. Last Saturdays attracts visitors downtown to experience diverse social, arts, and cultural opportunities every month.

The schedule of activities is posted online at www.DowntownFortWayne.com, artsunited.org/lastsaturdays or facebook.com/lastsaturdays.
