Women in NAACP celebrate Black History Month – 2/23/2013

“Educate, Empower, & Inspire for Change:” Women in NAACP celebrate Black History Month with their Annual Brunch on Saturday, February 23, 2013, 10 am – noon at Link’s Wonderland, 1711 East Creighton.

Women in NAACP is a committee that works tirelessly and passionately for the community. They have several annual events to advocate for and uplift women and children in our community. These include fellowship and gift baskets for senior citizens, Back to School supplies and games for children, and Black History Month Brunch.

Women in NAACP invite the community-at-large (men, women, and children) to join them in their annual Black History Brunch on Saturday, February 23, 2013, 10 am – noon at Link’s Wonderland to celebrate the power of women in making a difference in the community.

The power-packed lineup for the day includes Keynote Speaker, Phebe Poydras, JD, MLIS, Associate Dean for Library Affairs and Assistant Professor of Law at Indiana Tech Law School., Mistress of Ceremonies, Eryn Rogers, Reporter, WANE-TV and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Fort Wayne Alumnae Chapter member, and performances by local youth groups. You will be greeted at the door by the Women in NAACP and NAACP Fort Wayne/Allen County Youth Council #3721 members.

Prior to becoming one of the Indiana Tech inaugural faculty/staff, in 2012, Phebe Poydra, JD, MLIS, worked at Florida A&M University College of Law and served on the State’s Medical and Law School Libraries Advisory Group to the Task Force on Academic Libraries.. She brought with her more than eleven years of law library experience. Dean Poydras has been an active member of the American Association of Law Libraries as well as the Southeastern Association of Law Libraries. She is the former Chapter President of the Florida Caribbean Chapter of the Special Libraries Association. She also writes in the area of legal information literacy. Dean Poydras received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of New Orleans, her J.D. from the Southern University Law Center, and her Masters of Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University. At Indiana Tech, Dean Poydras will oversee the law library faculty and staff as well as a 60,000-volume library collection.

Eryn Rogers is an Emmy-Award winning multi-media journalist who joined NewsChannel 15 in August 2012. She received her Master degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. She won a Midwest Emmy for a documentary she filmed and produced as a part of her graduate capstone on a man trying to save youth in Chicago from gang life. She reported in a Journalism Residency at KSNT-TV in Topeka, KS. Eryn covered lead stories such as the aftermath of the same tornadoes which ravaged Joplin, MO. Eryn also covered Kansas politics, her pet interest. Along that line, Eryn left Kansas for New York City to intern at MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews”. Eryn is also a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc Fort Wayne Alumnae Chapter.

Event cost is $20 per person and $160 for table of eight. Program book ads are $25 for half page, $50 for full page, and $10 for donor. You are invited be inspired by our dynamic speaker and network with hundreds of community advocates, business leaders, and youth.

 

WIN is an official committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a multi-cultural and multi-racial organization, since its inception with the vision to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race. WIN purposes include serving as an advocacy vehicle for issues affecting women and children, and advocating for the positive development of children.
