Barricade Investigation

Date/Time: August 4, 2012 / 10:53 pm

Location: 4606 E. Washington Blvd., Travelers Inn

Arrested: Andrew N. Monhollen, age 28, Fort Wayne

Warrant Served: Violation of Probation

On Saturday, August 4, 2012 at approximately 10:53 p.m. officers with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to 4606 E. Washington Blvd., Travelers Inn, reference a report of an armed subject making threats to shoot someone. Officers arrived on the scene and the suspect retreated into a motel room refusing to come out. Further investigation revealed that the suspect was suicidal and intoxicated, and that a felony warrant had recently been issued for his arrest. Due to these circumstances and the high potential for a suicide-by-cop incident, the Crisis Response Team and Emergency Services Team were called to the scene to assist in the investigation.

Several nearby motel units were evacuated during the course of the investigation. Attempts to communicate with the suspect were unsuccessful and he frequently exited the motel room only to retreat soon after. It was during one such instance that the Emergency Services Team was able to safely take the suspect into custody, at approximately 1:00 a.m. The suspect, Andrew N. Monhollen, was transported to the Allen County Jail on the unrelated warrant. There were no injuries reported at the scene and no weapons were discovered in the room.

The incident remains under investigation with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
