News release from Visit Fort Wayne:
Visit Fort Wayne Experiences Successful Summer, Plans For More in Future
Led by President Dan O’Connell and his staff, Visit Fort Wayne is in the midst of one of its most successful and prolific summers in recent memory, as three conventions (Indiana Democratic Party, Gold Wing and NFLCC) have made their way to the Summit City since mid-June, and the feedback from each event has been extremely positive.
For the first time in history, the Indiana Democratic Party hosted its state convention outside of Indianapolis, holding the event at the Grand Wayne Center on June 16. Roughly 2,000 delegates, elected officials and candidates filled the convention center, bringing in an estimated $500,000 in economic impact to our community. Due to the event’s success, Democratic organizers believe Fort Wayne will be in the mix to host the convention in the near future.
From July 3-7, the Gold Wing Road Riders Association held its 34th Annual Wing Ding Event at the Memorial Coliseum. The group of 7,500 filled hotel rooms and restaurants all across Fort Wayne during the holiday week, totaling a projected $4 million in “new money” to our city. It was the third time the GWRRA held its convention in the Summit City.
The National Fishing Lure Collectors Club held its 36th Annual National Show and Meeting at the Grand Wayne Center from July 19-21. An estimated 800 attendees from across the United States visited Fort Wayne for three days, bringing in an estimated $400,000 to local businesses.
This summer alone, an estimated 10,000 visitors and $5 million entered the city from attendees, in large part to the efforts of Visit Fort Wayne.
For 2013 and many years to come, Visit Fort Wayne will continue to work each and every day to help bring more meeting planners, conventions and visitors to our wonderful city, showcasing its outstanding facilities, attractions and “Hoosier Hospitality.”
