Critical Injury Hit-Skip Accident
Date/Time: July 15, 2012/2:56 a.m.
Location: W. Main Street and Fairfield Avenue
Victim: Adult Female / Critical Condition
Early Sunday morning, July 15, 2012 at approximately 2:56 a.m. the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a personal injury accident at the intersection of W. Main Street and Fairfield Avenue. First responders arrived and discovered two vehicles were involved; a maroon-colored Buick and a Yellow Taxi Cab transporting three passengers. The front seat passenger of the Yellow Taxi Cab, an adult female, was listed in serious condition at the scene, and later downgraded to critical condition upon arrival at a local hospital. The two other passengers in the taxi cab and the taxi cab operator were listed in fair condition at the scene. All have been treated and released. Two passengers were discovered in the Buick and both were listed in fair condition. The driver of the Buick fled the scene prior to police arrival. Her injuries are unknown at this time, and efforts to locate the driver of the Buick have been unsuccessful.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the Buick was traveling southbound on Fairfield Avenue and the Yellow Taxi Cab was traveling eastbound on Main Street, and the two vehicles collided at the intersection. Based on evidence discovered at the scene, investigators believe alcohol to be a possible factor in this critical injury automobile accident.
Traffic was closed in all directions at this intersection while the F.A.C.T. (Fatal Alcohol Crash Team) investigated. The F.A.C.T. is composed of specially-trained investigators of the Fort Wayne Police Department and the New Haven Police Department. This incident remains under investigation with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
