House fire at 611 Sturgis St.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at 611 Sturgis St. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from both 611 Sturgis St. and 605 Sturgis St addresses. Crews began an interior attack but were called out of the structure due the deteriorating conditions. The fire was fought defensively. While the fire did spread to a third house at 615 Sturgis St. firefighters were able to avoid further extension. It was determined occupants of all three homes were already selfevacuated or were not home at the time of the blaze.

Firefighters were rehabbed and rotated throughout the evening. TRAA crews were on hand to check the vitals of firefighters on the scene. Several were treated for heat related issues and released. Crews will remain on scene to monitor and put out any hot spots throughout the night. FWPD, TRAA, Nipsco, AEP, Neighborhood Code and Red Cross assisted at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
