NBA Development League to host third-annual elite mini camp

(New York, May 31, 2012) – The NBA Development League will host the third-annual Elite Mini Camp on Monday, June 4 and Tuesday, June 5, at Chicago’s Moody Bible Institute. The Camp features some of the NBA D-League’s top prospects from the 2011-12 season, and serves as an opportunity for those players to display their skills and be evaluated NBA team personnel.

The two-day event features both drill work and full-court games, giving players the best opportunity to showcase their talents. More than 50 NBA front office executives and scouts are expected to be on hand to evaluate the talent.

“The NBA D-League’s Elite Mini Camp gives almost 40 top prospects from our league an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of more than 50 NBA scouts and front office personnel,” said Chris Alpert, Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel for the NBA D-League. “At the same time, the event affords NBA teams an offseason chance to check in on elite young players as they fill their summer league and training camp rosters.”

The event is highlighted by eight players with NBA experience, including former Chicago Bulls guard JamesOn Curry and his Springfield Armor teammate Dennis Horner, who found his way to the NBA D-League by way of a national tryout before earning a GATORADE Call-Up to the NBA last season. Other NBA veterans include Keith Benson (Sioux Falls Skyforce), Trey Johnson (Bakersfield Jam), and Alando Tucker (Texas Legends). Three members of the 2012 NBA D-League Champion Austin Toros, Terrance Woodbury, Julian Wright and Luke Zeller, round out the 36-player field.

The event, which was held in Los Angeles in 2009 and Chantilly, Va. in 2010, returns following a one-year hiatus in 2011.

A full roster of players expected to attend is below.

About the NBA Development League
The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA’s official minor league. Featuring 16 teams with direct affiliations to NBA franchises, the NBA D-League is a proven developer of talent: 27 percent of players in the NBA at the conclusion of the 2011-12 season boasted NBA D-League experience, and the league continues to develop coaches, referees, and front-office staff for the NBA and its teams. In fostering the league’s connection to the community, its teams, players and staff promote health and wellness, support local needs and interests, and assist in educational development through NBA D-League Cares programs. The NBA D-League also advances the game of basketball as the research and development arm of the NBA. Throughout the league’s 11th season, fans could watch all NBA D-League games on NBA FUTURECAST, the free live Web-streaming initiative found at nba.com/futurecast.
