Ivy Tech Community College to host consortium on auto industry
(INDIANAPOLIS) – Ivy Tech Community College will host the Auto Communities Consortium, a group that includes 20 community colleges, today and tomorrow at the Omni Severin Hotel in Indianapolis
The Auto Communities Consortium was formed to discuss and develop strategies to assist laid off and out-of-work employees of the auto industry. The group, made up of community colleges mostly in the Great Lakes states, has been working to develop training programs to move these workers into different jobs in the auto industry or into new industries.
The meeting will include remarks by Frank Chong, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community Colleges for the U.S. Department of Education. Panel discussions will be led by various college presidents including Bryan D. Albrecht, President of Gateway Community College; Kenneth L. Ender, President of Harper College; Dennis Bona, President of Kellogg Community College; and Thomas J. Snyder, President of Ivy Tech. The Consortium is led by Jim Jacobs, President of Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan.
Additional speakers include Whitney Smith, Program Manager for the Joyce Foundation, and Jennifer McNelly, Senior Vice President for The Manufacturing Institute, an affiliate of the National Association for Manufacturers (NAM).
The Lumina Foundation for Education and the Joyce Foundation has provided financial support for the ongoing meetings of the consortium.
