Germanfest kicks off today.

This is the 30th anniversary of Germanfest in Fort Wayne.  The Festival Pavilion & Bier tent open on Wednesday, but until then, there are plenty of other daily activities to participate in.

Today’s events:

 

11:00 a.m. - Deutsche Messe (German Mass) at St Peter’s Catholic Church, 518 E DeWald St
Father Chuck Herman will conduct a German language mass with special German sacred music by Greg Vey, Director of Music., and the Fort Wayne Männerchor/Damenchor. Immediately following the service gather for a reception of brats and German style refreshments at the church Pavilion.

 

3:00 p.m. – Prost! A German Stein Public Art project at Parkview Field
Four of the Steins will be at Parkview Field during the TinCaps game for viewing by the public. Prost! website

 

4:30 p.m. - Männerchor/Damenchor Konzert at Park Edelweiss, 3355 Elmhurst Dr
Doors open at 3:00 PM. Indiana’s second oldest German organization, the Fort Wayne Männerchor/Damenchor will be your hosts for the official opening ceremony of Germanfest, led by Musik Direktor Greg Vey. You will be entertained with authentic German folk music. Free admission. Following the event, stay and enjoy Heimatabend!

 

5:00 p.m. - Eleganza Baroque Germanfest Concert at Trinity Episcopal Church, 611 W Berry St
Eleganza Baroque Ensemble Germanfest Concert featuring early music from the Germanic States played on period instruments. Free admission.

 

5:30 p.m. - Heimatabend (German Homeland Night) at Park Edelweiss, 3355 Elmhurst Dr
The Fort Wayne Männerchor/Damenchor are your hosts for an evening of great food: Rouladen, Hot Vegetables, Bratkartoffeln, Salat and desserts, German style beverages, entertainment and gemutlichkeit! Dinner will be served from 6:00-8:00PM; dinner tickets can be purchased at the door for $10
