Ivy Tech Community College serves largest number of veterans
(INDIANAPOLIS, April 28, 2011) – Ivy Tech Community College serves more veterans than any other college in the state.
Currently, Ivy Tech serves 4,381 veterans, with 2,791 receiving benefits. Of the total number of veterans, 72 percent are males and 28 percent are females. A majority of the veterans are between 30-39 years of age (24.9 percent).
“Our Veterans Affairs Office is a very important department to our College,” Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder said. “We are working to see that every veteran is properly taken care of and appreciated. In addition to the individual care of each veteran, our staff is dedicated to expanding our partnerships with the National Guard and the Go-Army website. We honor and respect the service these men and women provide and want to offer them the very best in return.”
Ivy Tech is committed to seeing veterans succeed with a support staff throughout the state and a statewide director to expand opportunities for veterans. The Veterans Affairs Office serves as a liaison between students who are veterans, their dependents and the Department of Veteran Affairs. The office assists students with veteran status and dependents of service members disabled or deceased. With 14 offices available statewide, the team also oversees educational benefits and financial aid for veterans.
