News release Congressman Marlin Stutzman:

Stutzman Votes to Pay Soldiers and Stop Government Shutdown

(Washington, D.C. – April 7, 2011) – Today, Congressman Marlin Stutzman (R-IN-03) voted for a bipartisan bill to pay military service members for the remainder of this fiscal year. The Department of Defense and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2011 H. R. 1363 protects military families while extending the deadline of a government shutdown for one week. H. R. 1363 also provides for cuts in Federal spending for the remainder of FY 2011 while supporting the troops fighting three wars.

“It is time to have an adult conversation on the FY2011 Budget,” commented Stutzman “Week after week of Continuing Resolutions and negotiations have brought our Nation to the brink of government shutdown, again. Our service members are fighting three wars and they should not suffer financial hardships, while in harm’s way, as Washington bickers over cutting the deficit. The House continues to fight for spending cuts for FY2011 and FY2012; yesterday the House Budget Committee passed significant spending cuts while protecting seniors now and in the future. The cuts that are proposed in the Troop Funding Bill are necessary to reduce deficit spending and have been approved of before by both Republicans and Democrats in both Chambers of Congress and the President. I am happy to be part of a bipartisan vote for this bill as it protects America, her allies and her citizens.”
