On Liberty Community Discussion at IPFW
(April 5, 2011) – Bookworms, history buffs, political junkies, and anyone who’s been following the University Community Conversation (UC2) program through Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW) College of Arts and Science (COAS) have been reading the influential On Liberty by John Stuart Mill. Now is their chance to talk about their opinions. UC2 will host a book discussion Wednesday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Neff Hall, Room 101. It is free and open to the public.
A moderated panel composed of IPFW faculty and community leaders will lead the discussion about the 1859 book that established the philosophical foundation of liberalism. Audience members will be invited to ask questions and respond to the panel’s conversation.
Leaders of UC2 announced the One Book, One Community program in early February. Since then, the community has been encouraged to read On Liberty. Along with this traditional, face-to-face discussion, questions and comments can be submitted through Twitter.
UC2 is a new community engagement program sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences (COAS). The inaugural year’s theme is “The Promise and Problems of Democracy.” UC2 will feature monthly events throughout 2011 featuring a balance of university and community speakers and presenters. The program will incorporate the latest digital resources and social media to initiate, expand, and sustain community conversations.
