George R. Mather Lecture at the History Center focuses on preservation of local historical records

(March 29, 2011) – Margery Graham will present the George R. Mather Lecture on Sunday, April 3 at the History Center, 302 East Berry, Fort Wayne. Graham will speak on “Preservation of Records at the Local Level: Using and Preserving Local Historical Records”.

The talk will center on the where, the why, and the fun of exploring the history and records of the past. Admission is free to the event which is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Shields Room of the History Center.

A certified genealogist, Graham has 29 years experience in the field and is past president of the Allen County Genealogical Society of Indiana and a 27-year member of ACGSI. She also teaches genealogy at the Allen County Public Library and volunteers her time at the Allen County Vital Records Office, filling requests for birth and death records.

She has received numerous recognitions for her work including the “Distinguished Service Award” from the Federation of Genealogical Societies in 1998 and the “Certificate of Excellence” award from the Indiana Genealogical Society in 2009.

The History Center has several on-line resources for those wishing to explore the city and county’s past.
