ARCH offers Plaster Repair Workshop

(March 11, 2011) – ARCH announces that it will offer a Plaster Repair Workshop for area residents on Saturday, March 26, from 9AM to 3PM, at its offices at 818 Lafayette Street. Paul Hayden, Preservation Specialist for the Indiana Landmarks Northern Region office in South Bend, will give a 1-hour free presentation on plaster repair from 9AM -10AM.

Following the free presentation, a 5-hour hands-on workshop will be offered for up to 12 attendees from 10AM to 3PM. Cost for the expanded workshop is $20 for ARCH and Indiana Landmarks members, and $25 for the general public. The fee includes lunch and all materials for the class.

This workshop will provide a unique opportunity to identify and repair common issues of homes built with plaster walls. The location—818 Lafayette Street—is the historic Alexander T. Rankin house, dating to the 1830s-1840s. Repairs for nail holes, damaged lathe, sagging plaster, and other common issues will be covered, as well as instruction for re-keying sections of plaster, installing new lathe, and other repairs to larger areas. “This workshop provides a great opportunity for ARCH to use our new offices for a hands-on class for the public,” said Angie Quinn, Executive Director of ARCH.

Please contact the ARCH office for more information or to make reservations for the hands-on workshop at 260-426-5117, or archfortwayne@gmail.com.
