Habitat for Humanity: What will you build?

News release from Habitat for Humanity:

What will you build?

Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity hosted their annual dinner Friday, March 4, 2011 at Ceruti’s Diamond Room with approximately 250 people in attendance.

Habitat for Humanity announced a new capital campaign Friday evening at the fundraiser dinner.

Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity is celebrating its 25th anniversary of serving families throughout Allen County. The affiliate has built 149 homes locally and 89 internationally the past 25 years. To celebrate this milestone, Habitat has launched an initiative to build 75 homes over the next 5 years that will not only provide homes for families in our community, but will also build 42 homes for families internationally. We ask that you embark with us on this journey to serve more families than ever before, and enable us to grow in an effort to meet the need of these families, and partnering with them in the realization of their dream of homeownership. This is no small task! This will change the lives of these families forever and in turn allow our mission to grow and serve even more families in the coming years!

“The What will YOU Build? campaign will be the cornerstone in the evolution of our ministry over the next 5 years. During this campaign we will not only serve over 100 families both locally and internationally with homes, but will build the infrastructure to sustainably serve more families annually, for many years to come,” Justin Berger, Executive Director of Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity.

“As we reach different milestones within this campaign, we will also be able to add some new programs that will allow us to serve even more families, and offer more opportunities for volunteers in the community to impact the lives of others forever. We hope that the community will reach out and optimize their time, talents, and treasure, to make the dream of homeownership for these families a reality!”

About Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity
Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity is a 501(c)3 non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that uses volunteer labor to build simple, affordable homes through partnerships with low-income Allen County families. Once completed the homes are sold to the family with a $500 down payment and at no profit on a 20-year, interest-free mortgage. Because of volunteer involvement, the cost of a standard three-bedroom home is kept affordable at approximately $65,000, with the monthly mortgage payment around $350, which includes taxes and insurance. Mortgage payments are then reinvested in the community in the form of additional housing opportunities.
