Bishop Emeritus to host “The Christian Mosaic: Understanding Catholicism” at IPFW

(February 9, 2011) – Bishop Emeritus John D’Arcy will visit Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) to lead the discussion
for this month’s University Religious Forum. “Understanding Catholicism” is part of this year’s theme of the Christian mosaic.

The lecture forum will take place Thursday, Feb. 17, from noon to 1:15 p.m. in Walb Student Union, rooms 222-226. The forum is free and open to the public.

D’Arcy served as bishop of the Fort Wayne/South Bend Diocese from 1985 to 2009. As bishop, D’Arcy encouraged initiatives such as
Redeemer Radio, a Catholic AM radio station, the expansion of the Women’s Care Centers for women facing crisis pregnancies, the Matthew 25 health clinic for the poor in Fort Wayne, and the founding of the Ave Maria House day center for the homeless. He also oversaw construction of eight new churches and more than 50 building renovations or additions.

A simple lunch is served; donations are accepted. Reservations are not necessary. The series is sponsored by IPFW Campus Ministry.
