A Republican has filed for the 1st District City Council seat.
This is the seat currently held by Councilman Tom Smith, also a Republican.
The Republican challenger is Ken Nicolet who will be retiring from the Mayor’s office this year. Â Nicolet has been with the City of Fort Wayne since 1991 and a Mayor’s Advocate since 2004. Â Nicolet, who’d created an exploratory committee earlier this year, officially filed paperwork with the Election Board Friday.
Smith has not faced an opponent at least the last two election cycles.
