Challenger for 1st District’s Tom Smith

Neighborhood Advocate Ken Nicolet

A Republican has filed for the 1st District City Council seat.

This is the seat currently held by Councilman Tom Smith, also a Republican.

The Republican challenger is Ken Nicolet who will be retiring from the Mayor’s office this year.  Nicolet has been with the City of Fort Wayne since 1991 and a Mayor’s Advocate since 2004.  Nicolet, who’d created an exploratory committee earlier this year, officially filed paperwork with the Election Board Friday.

Smith has not faced an opponent at least the last two election cycles.
