Press release from the American Heart Association:

Dr. Rudy and Rhonda Kachmann will host Heart Ball
The fundraiser for the American Heart Association will focus on heart disease in children

(January 21, 2011) – Dr. Rudy and Rhonda Kachmann will serve as chairs of the 2011 Fort Wayne Heart Ball. The couple has been working for the past year with other volunteers to plan the fundraiser which benefits the American Heart Association.

The Heart Ball will be held at the Fort Wayne Country Club on Friday, Feb. 25. Over 300 people are expected to attend the formal event featuring dinner and a live auction with guest auctioneer, Mike Eikenberry, CEO of PNC Bank. The Dana Christy Trio and Chuck Surack’s band, Prime Time, will provide entertainment.

The event provides an opportunity for community members to support a special campaign, the Learn and Live Special Appeal, which addresses the critical issue of children’s heart health. Heart-related birth defects, alarming increase in childhood obesity, and teaching kids about the dangers of smoking are just a few of the issues this initiative supports.

“We are so honored to be chairing the Heart Ball this year,” said Dr. Kachmann. “Knowing that children are now at an even greater risk makes it more important for all of us to do what we can to reduce heart disease in Allen County.”

A neurosurgeon at Fort Wayne Neurological Center, Dr. Kachmann has been practicing medicine for nearly four decades. He serves on many boards including the American Heart Association Board of Directors. Dr. Kachmann and his Neurosurgery team are the first responders for trauma cases at both the Parkview and Lutheran Trauma Centers.

Rhonda Kachmann has been involved in community issues for over 20 years. She served both former Mayors Winfield Moses and Paul Helmke on various commissions and as one of Fort Wayne’s representatives to the National Leadership Conference.

The Kachmanns have underwritten many community projects such as the PBS Kachmann Teleplex, Kachmann tennis courts on the IPFW campus, Aboite New Trails, and Lutheran Hospital’s Kachmann Auditorium. They also donated an outdoor basketball court, sand volleyball court, and tennis courts to Indiana Tech.

“I hope the committee involved in the Heart Ball will help to generate the critical funding and awareness needed to carry out the American Heart Association’s important mission of savings lives through education and research.” said Rhonda Kachmann.

The Heart Ball is a major fund-raising event benefiting research, public education and community programs of the American Heart Association and its mission-related activities in Peoria and surrounding counties. Tickets are $200. Corporate tables and sponsorship opportunities are also available.
