Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast Announces the Opening of Two On-Campus Eateries for the Start of the Spring 2011 Semester
Blue Bamboo Café and Wrap ‘N Roll Deli slated to open Jan. 10(January 4, 2011) – Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast announces the introduction of two new retail eateries that will make their way to campus at the beginning of the Spring 2011 semester on January 10. They are the Wrap ‘N Roll Deli at the Coliseum Campus and the Blue Bamboo Café at the Student Life Center on the North Campus. These two storefronts will be located in the former Java Loco Café (Coliseum Campus) & Java Loco Grille (North Campus) locations and are open to the campus and general public.
Food options will include items such as steak burgers, flatbread melts, soup and sandwich/wrap combos, among other items; prices will range from $2-$4 for breakfast items, $4-$6 for lunch items, and $1-$3 for beverages. Both locations will promote special offers during the first week of business (Jan. 10-14) and will run periodic limited time offers throughout the semester.
The college hired Food Services Manager Samuel Bolden to bring a whole new food experience to Ivy Tech’s students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
“The goal is to provide Ivy Tech with a value-added food service program that supports the nutritional needs of the students, faculty, staff, and guests,” said Bolden. “I see us implementing innovative food programs that will sustain quality and perpetuate business growth.”
Bolden has an extensive background in food service and comes to Ivy Tech from the Compass Group, a global contract foodservice company, after 15 years of service. There he was the district manager for dining services through southern Michigan and northern Indiana. He managed up to 18 executive chefs and directors and provided services to local companies such as Vera Bradley, Swiss Re, and Do It Best, among others.
“My personal goal is to develop a food services team that is committed to keeping the bar high on creativity, food quality, and excellent customer service,” said Bolden.
In partnership with the School of Business, the Department of Hospitality Management, the Resource Development office, and the Marketing and Communications office, Bolden’s area will be able to provide students hands-on experience when projects or services offer opportunities to students in their chosen field of study.
Eventually, there are plans to develop an internal catering service that can serve the college for special events and other needs in addition to possibly expanding the food services on the Coliseum Campus at the Wrap ‘N Roll Deli.
