Press release from the TinCaps:

TinCaps eclipse franchise attendance record
Mark falls for second straight season

For the second time in as many seasons at Parkview Field, the TinCaps set a single-season franchise attendance record. A total of 384,866 fans have come through the turnstiles of the downtown ballpark this season.

“I can’t thank our fans enough for supporting the team throughout this season,” TinCaps president Mike Nutter said. “The atmosphere at Parkview Field this year has been electric. We’ve worked hard to create a great experience for the fans. To have folks respond the way they have is extremely gratifying.”

Friday’s crowd of 7,936 sent the season total past the old record of 378,529, set last year in the inaugural season at Parkview Field. Three games remain on the TinCaps’ regular-season home schedule.

The TinCaps hit the road for a seven-game road swing, then return to finish the home slate with a weekend series against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Class-A Detroit Tigers) September 4-6.

National entertainment act QuickChange is set to appear on Saturday, September 4, with a postgame fireworks show to follow the 7:05 p.m. game. On Sunday, September 5, the game is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start with an appearance by Jake the Diamond Dog and a post-game fireworks extravaganza. Monday, September 6, is Fan Appreciation Day with the game beginning at 3:05 p.m.

Tickets are available for all three remaining home games and potential playoff games. To order, visit TinCaps.com, call the ticket office at (260) 482-6400 or visit the Parkview Field Ticket office at the corner of Ewing and Brackenridge Streets in downtown Fort Wayne.

  1. It is very misleading for the Tin Caps to use the term, “come through the turnstiles” in this press release. The 384,866 fans for this year is the total “announced attendance” not the “turnstile attendance”. Announced includes all pre-sold but empty seats – no one came thru one of the turnstiles (the electronic scanners) with this ticket.
That being said, the comparison with last years announced is valid. The other thing to remember is that the Stadium Liscense Agreement’s payout of $1.00 for each attendee over 325,000 per season does not include the free and reduced cost tickets that the Tin Caps give to students as well asa those to league reps and as complementary to players and officials of the visiting team. So, for this season the total to date toward this 325,000 is about 365,500 -a net for the stadium maintenance fund of about $40,500. Since the city has promised to put into this fund a minimum of $230,000 every year we can add the city share ($150,000)of the Parkview “Naming Rights” fee to this $40,500 and we still need 39,000 fans to be counted as net attendance to break even! Plus the city pays ALL of the utilities costs for the stadium!
It STILL is NOT A GOOD DEAL for Fort Wayne!!! Over 90% of the net profits is going to Hardball Capital – millions of dollars again this year! Just when is our City Common Council going to wise up to how we are all getting screwed by the guys from Atlanta????
