Press release from Fort Wayne Community Schools:
FWCS launches new Web site
Fort Wayne Community Schools launched a new Web site today at www.fortwayneschools.org. The new site address was established to make it easier for parents, students, employees and the community to remember.
At the new site, visitors will find virtually all the information they want and need about Fort Wayne Community Schools. The site is divided into sections, such as Parents, Students or About Us, to make it easier to navigate. For instance, under the Students section, visitors will find links to school Edline pages and homework help sites as well as scholarship information.
Quick Links on the left side of the page easily takes visitors to enrollment information, school calendars and lunch menus from nearly every page on the Web site.
The new site was created in-house and took about 18 months to complete. Keeping the work within the district saved FWCS thousands of dollars.
“We hope that visitors to our Web site find it visually appealing and easy to use,” said Krista J. Stockman, Public Information Officer. “A district’s Web site is often the firs place parents and prospective parents go for information. We believe the redesigned site will make that process easier, along with being more interactive and engaging.”
I couldn’t find a way of contacting them about their web site, but there is a bug in their Javascript popups for external links. It pops up all the time even for internal links because they’re checking for ‘fwcs’ in the href, which isn’t there because of the new domain.
Kevin –
I’ll forward your comments and email on to my contact at FWCS.
Thanks!
Stephen
Kevin – I had a response from my contact at FWCS who shared they are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it. They have solved it for some browsers, but are having problems with others.
The problem is this line: “
if (this.href.indexOf('fwcs') < 0) {
“, because “www.fortwayneschools.org” does not contain “fwcs”.
