Coventry to Dicke portion of Aboite Ctr. opened today

Press release from Allen County government:

Webmaster’s note: I’m a little late posting this as it should have been posted Tuesday.  An update to this post, is below the press release.

Coventry to Dicke Portion of Aboite Ctr. Project to Open Tomorrow
Work to start immediately on Dicke-W. Jefferson phase of project

(August 17, 2010) – By tomorrow evening, motorists will once again be able to drive on Aboite Center Road between Coventry Lane and Dicke Road.

The Allen County Highway Department today announced that work on the first phase of the Aboite Center improvement project from Coventry to Dicke should wrap up Wednesday during the early evening hours. Also opening at that time will be the intersection of Aboite Center and Coventry Lane.

Immediately upon completion of that phase, workers will turn their attention to the section of Aboite Center between Dicke and West Jefferson Boulevard. That phase is scheduled to be finished sometime in mid-October. The recommended detour for eastbound traffic will continue to be south on Homestead Road to US 24 then east to Aboite Center. The detour for westbound traffic from West Jefferson will be north onto Getz Road, west onto Covington Road, south onto Dicke Road to Aboite Center. As with all highway projects, the length of the closure could be affected by weather.

The $6.6 million project includes widening Aboite Center from two lanes to four 12-foot wide lanes with curb and gutter, adding an eight-foot wide multi-use path on the north side and a five-foot wide sidewalk along the south side of the road.

Update, sent via e-mail at 4:24 pm:

The Allen County Highway Department informs me the Coventry to Dicke portion of Aboite Center Rd. was reopened to traffic at approximately 4:00 this afternoon.  The Dicke to West Jefferson portion is now closed so improvement work can be done.
