Press release from the Allen County Board of Commissioners:
Use of FamilyWize Cards in Allen County Continues to Grow
Total savings tops $400,000 mark
The Allen County Commissioners, United Way of Allen County and FamilyWize are proud to announce that their partnership has saved the people living and working in Allen County over $400,000 on everyday prescription costs.
According to figures supplied by FamilyWize, 21,886 claims have been filed since the program was first offered in Allen County back in March of 2007. The amount saved on those claims totals $410,186. The average amount saved on a prescription was 30%, or $18.74.
During the first half of 2010, residents were able to save $99,737 by using the FamilyWize card, compared to $89,379 in the first six months of 2009. 5,958 claims were filed between January and June of this year, about 1,000 more than the same period last year.
The free FamilyWize drug discount card is distributed by United Way of Allen County. The Allen County Commissioners’ office teamed up with the United Way in March of 2008 to help publicize the program and distribute cards in the community.
The FamilyWize card lowers the cost of medicine by an average of 30% or more for people without insurance or who take medications not covered by their plan.
Most local pharmacies accept the FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards. The cards have no usage or age limits, income requirements or registration forms, and can be used immediately.
FamilyWize cards can be obtained from a variety of participating local partner agencies, municipal and county agencies and departments. People with Internet access can go to www.familywize.com to print a card, look up drug prices and get a list of participating pharmacies.
