Press release from IPFW:
Tapestry Scholarship Fund passes $300,000 level
(June 15, 2010) – Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Chancellor Michael Wartell and Parkview Health’s Sue Ehinger announced today that more than $74,000 was raised for the Tapestry Parkview Health Sciences Scholarships at this year’s Tapestry—A Day for Women. Twenty-eight thousand dollars in scholarships were presented to five IPFW students at the April 23 event, which is the most money and the highest number of scholarships awarded at one time in the history of the program. Since the scholarships began in 2002, $371,681 has been raised, with scholarships going to 24 IPFW students.
Denise Wells, one of the five students receiving a scholarship this year, spoke at the news conference and said, “It is very difficult to find scholarships for adults; and every time I take out a student loan to get closer to my dream, I cannot help but feel I am taking away from my family. I am so appreciative that IPFW and Parkview offers this opportunity.”
The Tapestry Parkview Health Sciences Scholarships were established in 2002 to provide merit-based scholarships to IPFW students in the College
of Health and Human Services. The recipients must have high academic standards; commitment to high-quality professional service; demonstrated
responsibility for their own actions and education; and strong involvement in community and professional activities. For more information about the scholarships or for application information, contact Ruth Stone, Tapestry project manager, at 260-481-6854 or stonerl@ipfw.edu, or go to www.ipfw.edu/tapestry.
