Press release from IPFW RiverFest:

Activities, Learning and Entertainment for Children at IPFW RiverFest

(June 18, 2010) – Area families looking for a fun-filled, action-packed day of learning and entertainment should look no further than FamilyFest, sponsored by Parkview, at the IPFW RiverFest on Saturday, June 26, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. FamilyFest is located across the Ron Venderly Family Bridge at IPF, in Carrington Field on the west side of the St. Joseph River. FamilyFest creates awareness about Fort Wayne’s rivers in an exciting and interactive way for children and parents. The IPFW RiverFest is a rare opportunity for entire families to enjoy a free all-day event with no fees for parking or activities.

Highlights of FamilyFest include hands-on learning activities about history, nature and water; hot air balloon rides; rock-climbing walls; fun inflatables; face painting; carnival-type games; crafts; soccer; mascots; and a petting zoo. The Fort Wayne Fire Department will provide a “wet down” for festival goers and Parkview’s Samaritan Helicopter will be on site from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—based on weather and availability. River activities for families include pontoon and kayak rides, and a river show with sea planes and water skiers.

The FamilyFest entertainment stage features the Lesley Douglass Children’s Zumba class at 10 a.m.; Sweetcakes Comedy Entertainment at 11 a.m.; Danny Vachon Pop/Rock Music at noon; Comedy and Magic of Terry Michael Owens at 1 p.m.; and the Voices of Unity Youth Choir at 3 p.m. The Atz’s Ice Cream Eating Contest to be held at 2 p.m. will involve a limited number of participants.

The IPFW RiverFest is presented by Steel Dynamics in partnership with Fort Wayne Friends of the Rivers. The entire community is invited to the
IPFW campus for RiverFest 2010—a day of festivity and celebration for one of Fort Wayne’s most prominent natural resources, our rivers. Families can enjoy nature, history, sports, water activities, and art, while music enthusiasts can enjoy performances throughout the day and rock bands in the evening until midnight. This event will stimulate interest in preserving our city’s rivers and support the initiatives of the Fort Wayne Friends of the Rivers.

Other RiverFest events include the RiverWalk/Run; ArtFest Rivers and Bridges of Northeast Indiana Exhibition and Fine Arts and Craft Sale; RiverRaces, RiverRides and RiverShow; RiverFeast food concessions and the YLNI Barr Street Market; and the Rockin’ the River band concert.
