Press release from the Downtown Improvement District:
DID Presents Second Drop Your Avant Garde this Saturday
The Downtown Improvement District (DID) event, Drop Your Avant Garde, will bring unique artwork to the 800 block of Calhoun Street this Saturday, June 12 from 6:00pm – 12:00am.
After the overwhelmingly positive response from February’s event, patrons are again invited to come downtown to change the way they think about art, and the places where art can be found. Join the DID and Comcast for art, live music, food and drink specials, and more as they create five NEW unique art exhibits in unconventional urban spaces.
“We had over 2,500 people on Calhoun Street during a cold February evening at the last Drop Your Avant Garde,” DID event coordinator Samantha Sawyer said. “We expect to see even more people this time around—That’s great for visitors, that’s great for businesses and that’s great for downtown.”
This Saturday a new venue will be added to the event. The Garden Beauty & Barber Studio, one of the newest businesses to locate downtown, will feature artwork by Chris York.
Drop Your Avant Garde will feature five pop-up art galleries on the 800 block of Calhoun Street. These venues include 816 Pint & Slice, Dash-In, Loaf ‘n Ladle, Ryan Hadley Studio and The Garden Beauty & Barber Studio.
