Kindergarten, fifth- and eighth-graders prepare to move on

(May 28, 2010) – Students across Fort Wayne Community Schools will be recognized over the next two weeks for reaching a milestone in their educational careers – finishing their elementary school years or their middle school years. Several schools also have programs celebrating the end of kindergarten. Schools will say good-bye to their fifth- and eighth-graders in recognition, culmination and award ceremonies. The ceremonies honor the work the students have accomplished in their current schools and celebrate the good things to come in their new schools. Several include punch and cookie receptions.

Following is a list of the ceremonies happening before the end of the school year. All events are at the school unless otherwise listed.

June 1st

  • Northwood Middle School will honor eighth-graders at an awards ceremony at 8 a.m.

June 2nd

  • Pleasant Center will honor fifth-graders at 9 a.m. with a program including singing, awards and a slide presentation as a celebration of the student success at Pleasant Center. Kindergartners will be honored at a program consisting of singing and poetry reading and 1:30 p.m.
  • Lane will honor eighth-graders at 7 p.m. at Snider High School.

June 3rd

  • Shawnee Middle School will have its honors assembly at 6 p.m. in Northrop High School’s auditorium. Students will be recognized for outstanding academic achievement, given specialty awards and recognized for participation in extracurricular activities.

June 4th

  • Harris fifth-grade students will be recognized and receive their awards from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Snider High School. From 7:30-8 p.m., students will have social time with their family and friends, and from 8-9:30 p.m., students can attend the fifth-grade dance.
  • Shambaugh’s fifth-grade celebration is at 1:45 p.m. in the gym. The students will perform, hear from a guest speaker and watch a slide show of the last year. Each student will receive a certificate.
  • Indian Village Elementary will have its fifth-grade culmination at 1:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. There will be a small ceremony along with a slide show of the fifth-graders throughout the school year. A reception will follow the ceremony in the cafeteria.

June 7th

  • Nebraska Elementary will have a spring concert and fifth-grade celebration at 9:45 a.m. The fourth- and fifth-graders will sing, and juice and rolls will be provided. The fifth-grade students will be celebrating going to middle school.
  • Adams Elementary will have a fifth-grade celebration at 6 p.m. in the school gym. Students will honored and celebrated during the program, which includes a memory slide show and a video of teacher farewell messages. Students will have one last chance to sing together on the stage and will receive awards and acknowledgments of all their hard work. A cookie reception will promptly follow the ceremony in the cafeteria.
  • Study Elementary will celebrate fifth-graders at 1:30 p.m.
  • South Wayne Elementary will recognize the fifth-grade students for all their accomplishments and success for the 2009-2010 school year on Monday, June 7 from 1:30-3 p.m. The ceremony and presentation of certificates will take place in the Eagle gymnasium.

June 8th

  • Fifth-graders at Lindley International Spanish Academy will be receiving hard-earned awards during the recognition on Tuesday, June 8.
  • St. Joseph Central will recognize fifth-graders at an assembly at 1:45 p.m.
  • Fifth-graders at Haley Elementary will be honored at a Recognition Program at 1:30 p.m. Students will receive year-end awards by classroom and special area teachers.
  • Washington Center will honor fifth-graders at a recognition ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. All honors and awards will be handed out at this recognition. Parents and family are encouraged to attend.
  • Fifth-graders at Maplewood will be recognized at an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. After receiving their awards and certificates of completion, they will be treated, along with their parents, to cake and punch in the cafeteria provided by the PTA.
  • Franke Park will have a fifth-grade recognition
