Ivy Tech Community College summer enrollment up more than 17 percent
(INDIANAPOLIS – May 27, 2010) – Ivy Tech Community College’s statewide summer semester enrollment was up 17.2 percent compared to the first day of summer semester last year.
Ivy Tech’s first day summer enrollment numbers topped 57,011 students as the college began summer courses on Monday. Enrollment last summer term totaled 48,629, an increase of more than 8,000 students.
The number of full-time equivalent (FTE) students is also on the rise, up nearly 25 percent as compared to last summer term.
In the last two years, Ivy Tech’s summer enrollment has increased by more than 20,000 students, increasing from just 36,416 students on the first day of Summer classes in 2008 to 57,011 this semester.
This unprecedented growth follows double digit enrollment growth every semester for the past three years. Just last year, Ivy Tech surpassed the Indiana University system to become the state’s largest post-secondary institution. It is also the nation’s largest singly-accredited statewide community college system.
Ivy Tech has grown from serving just 71,433 students 10 years ago to currently serving more than 150,000 students annually.
Just this week, Ivy Tech announced plans for two campus expansion projects in Indianapolis and Anderson to help accommodate the college’s growing need for classroom space. On Tuesday the college dedicated the new site of the Anderson campus and on Wednesday the college broke ground on a new academic building that will be housed on the former site of St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Ivy Tech Community College is the state’s largest public post-secondary institution and the nation’s largest singly-accredited statewide community college system with more than 150,000 students enrolled annually.
