CANI POVERTY SIMULATION held yesterday

Yesterday, CANI held a POVERTY SIMULATION at the Free Mason’s Hall in downtown Fort Wayne.

I teamed up with Teri Armstrong and we participated in the simulation.  Well, she participated, I recorded on video our experience.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to put the video together this weekend, if not, first of the week.

Basically, upon arrival, you were assigned a new “persona” complete with a ready-made family.  Our family, for instance, consisted of a mother, father, 16 year-old daughter and mother-in-law who couldn’t take care of herself.  Income was limited to an at or near poverty level which meant the family had to be very judicious with their funds.  Transportation to and from work and school had to be considered, as well as the basic necessities like going to the bank, paying utility bills and the house mortgage as well as school expenses, car payments, well, the list became endless.  More on this adventure later.

For now, here is an interview I conducted with CANI Executive Director Steve Hoffman about the simulation as well as the work CANI does.
