The 10th Annual Get Green IAFF Local 124 St. Patrick’s Day celebration will take place on March 13, 2010.
This year, there will be a 5-Kilt Run shortly before the festivities kick off.
Runners get ready to kick-off the 10th annual Get Green Festival with the 5-Kilt – a 5K run/walk. Saturday, March 13, 2010, runners will run the Rivergreenway for 3.1 miles starting and ending at the Calhoun Street cul-de-sac. The race starts at 9:30 a.m and Kilts are encouraged. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. Pre-register by clicking here or by mailing the registration form (checks should be made payable to IAFF Local 124). After the race runners are encouraged to stick around for the river greening, lunch and the beer tent at Headwaters Park – West Pavilion as Fort Wayne Firefighters Local 124 celebrates St. Patrick’s Day. Saturday, March 13, 2010 celebrate St. Patrick’s day with Fort Wayne Firefighters Local 124’s GET GREEN. The all day family friendly festival includes: the river greening; the 5KILT – a 5K race; a parade; Lucky Charms eating contest; the Gold Coin Hunt; the Strongman Competition; food by Club Soda; beverages by Mad Anthonys; and live music.
Get Green 2010 will be at Headwaters Park- West Pavilion to accommodate the more than 1,000 community members expected to attend.
The 2010 GET GREEN agenda includes:
5-KILT RACE: a 5-K run/walk – Organized by the FWFD’s Health and Wellness Committee, working with Three Rivers Running Club and Fort Wayne Track Club, the 5-Kilt is Fort Wayne’s first organized run of the year. The race will begin and end at the Calhoun Street cul-de-sac.
RIVER GREENING – Mimicking the famous Chicago river greening, Fort Wayne Firefighter’s turn the St. Mary’s green using eco friendly vegetable dye.
PARADE – Led by the 1942 fire truck Get Green attendees partake in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade leaving the Wells Street Foot Bridge walking Wells, Superior and Calhoun streets.
LUCKY CHARMS EATING CONTEST – Divisioned matches enable young and old to gobble Lucky Charms for bragging rights and a trophy.
GOLD COIN HUNT – What is at the end of the FWFD’s ladder truck? Fort Wayne’s own leprechaun dropping gold coins for the children to collect.
STRONGMAN COMPETITION – Teams push, pull and lift water-filled kegs, tractor tires, and kettle bells. The final event – the FIRE TRUCK pull.
