Press release from the Fort Wayne Community Schools:
FWCS students, staff give $28,000 to Haiti relief efforts
(February 19, 2010) Fort Wayne Community Schools’ students and staff raised more than $28,000 over the last month to support relief efforts in Haiti. The majority of the money raised was donated to the Red Cross, but schools also supported other organizations.
Snider High School, for example, raised more than $5,000 for Jesus in Haiti. That amount is enough to build 10 houses in Haiti. Snider students also collected blankets and more than $400 worth of baby formula.
“Though many of our students come from families that have their own needs, it is always heartwarming to see their generosity in helping others,” Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson said. “The Fort Wayne Community Schools family has a truly giving spirit.”
