Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service:
SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTHERN INDIANA
450 AM EST THU JAN 28 2010
…BLOWING SNOW WITH COLD TEMPERATURES AND WIND CHILLS…
TEMPERATURES WILL DROP INTO THE LOWER AND MIDDLE TEENS THIS MORNING AND REMAIN NEARLY STEADY THROUGH THE DAY. NORTHWEST WINDSÂ OF 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS AROUND 30 MPH WILL CREATE WIND CHILLS IN THE NEGATIVE SINGLE DIGITS TODAY. PEOPLE ARE URGED TO DRESSÂ APPROPRIATELY.
THE STRONG WINDS TODAY WILL ALSO BLOW AND DRIFT THE LIGHT AND FLUFFY SNOW THAT FELL LAST NIGHT. THIS WILL KEEP SOME ROADS SNOWÂ COVERED AND SLIPPERY TODAY. IN ADDITION…BECAUSE OF THE VERY COLD AIR MOVING IN…SNOW THAT MELTS ON ROADS FROM TRAFFIC THIS MORNING MAY QUICKLY FREEZE AGAIN CREATING DANGEROUS BLACK ICE CONDITIONS. MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO BE CAUTIOUS AND SLOW DOWN. BLACK ICE IS DIFFICULT TO SEE AND MANY INTERSECTIONS MAY BE ICY.
