Press release from TekVenture:
TekVenture Announces Chain Reaction Challenge 3 – April 24, 2010
“Building a Better Mousetrap” is the theme for the Third Annual Chain Reaction Challenge brought to you by TekVenture, the not-for-profit organization planning to build a public art and technology laboratory in the near-downtown Fort Wayne area.
Last Spring, TekVenture brought you “Around the Square” at the Downtown Allen County Public Library with the Second Annual Chain Reaction Challenge. Twelve locally-built, elaborately complicated, award-winning machines linked to, then triggered, a kinetic sculpture built by local artist Jim Merz. Teams comprised of home school students, families, business people, and friends were joined by a crowd of over 500 to celebrate creative tinkering!
On Saturday April 24, 2010, teams of 4-6 people will assemble in the Great Hall of the Allen County Public Library downtown in order to put their ingenuity to the test. Teams will join their individual “Links” to form Fort Wayne’s third-annual Community Chain Reaction.
People of all ages are welcome to participate either by forming a team or by coming to view these one-of-a-kind contraptions combining creativity, imagination, teamwork, and just plain fun.
To encourage participation, all are invited to attend a free informational workshop at the downtown library on Saturday, March 20 from 2pm – 4pm. A sample link will be demonstrated and construction ideas discussed.
A minimal $20 advance registration fee for a team of four up to $30 for a team of six must accompany registration forms. Space is limited to 20 Links so teams must register early!
Awards will be given to the teams with the most complex Link in the Chain, the Link using the most recycled objects, and the People’s Choice Award, among others.
The TekVenture Chain Reaction Challenge is a continuing “coming out party” for TekVenture and we ask the public to help us make it a reality. Contributions of time, materials, and sponsorship are being sought in order to offer the Chain Reaction Challenge at a minimum cost to participants.
We again challenge the community to help us build TekVenture, a destination for programming like the Chain Reaction Challenge, and for people who want to engage tools, materials, media and mentors to give form to their great ideas!Visit www.TekVenture.org to learn more about TekVenture, Inc., to register a team for the TekVenture Chain Reaction Challenge 3, to sponsor, or to get involved in some other way.
