FWCS and Parkview partner on EMT program
Fort Wayne Community Schools and Parkview Hospital officials today discussed the early successes of the new emergency medical technician (EMT) basics program that is underway at Anthis Career Center.
The program allows high school students from Allen County and eastern Whitley County the opportunity to become an EMT during their senior year in high school. Thirty-one students participate in the program, which started this school year.
Parkview Hospital led the effort to assist Anthis Career Center through the approval process that allowed for the new EMT program to start this year.
“We are always excited to add new programs that benefit our students and serve a need in the community,” Anthis Principal Larry Gerardot said. “Our goal is to prepare students for life after high school, and the EMT program is one more way students can get a jumpstart on a medical career. We have a longtime partnership with Parkview, and we’re happy to build on that relationship with this program.”
“Parkview is pleased to see that so many young people have an interest in the health field and are working to make a positive difference in the community,” said Cathy Harris, director of flight and EMS, Parkview Hospital. “The EMT program complements Parkview’s mission to improve the health of the communities we serve. Our participation is a great way to give back and help students in developing the skills they will need now and in the future.”
