Press release from the Fort Wayne Community schools:

Santa Claus is coming to FWCS

Santa Claus will be making stops at several Fort Wayne Community Schools classrooms Friday, Dec. 18, before students and staff head home for the winter break.

Santa’s first school visit will be to Harrison Hill Elementary, 355 Cornell Circle, at 8:40 a.m. There, he will remind children about being safe and enjoying the holiday vacation. He will also thank them for their generosity in giving to others during the holiday season. Later in the day at 1:30 p.m., staff and students will gather in the auditorium to find out how much they supported local charities. The school collected canned food to give to the Turner Chapel AME Food bank; baby items for Whittington Homes for Children & Families; toiletries and hygiene items for the YWCA; money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; and school supplies for Wellspring Interfaith Social Services.

At 9 a.m., Santa will visit Bunche Early Childhood Center, 1111 Greene St., through stories. Students and staff will wear pajamas and drink hot cocoa while listening to the story “The Polar Express,” which tells the tale of children riding a train to the North Pole.

A special Santa will visit Blackhawk Middle School, 7200 E. State Blvd., at 1:30 p.m. This Santa, who has a disability, will visit with students with severe and profound disabilities, telling stories, handing out presents and candy canes and visiting with each of the students.

Santa will end his day at FWCS arriving at Waynedale Elementary, 7201 Elzey St., in a Coca-Cola truck. He will give books to all the good little boys and girls at the school during a holiday party from 2-3:30 p.m.

Other events Friday include:

  • Bloomingdale fourth- and fifth-grade students will help stock, sell and select books from 8-8:40 a.m. for Bloomingdale’s “Blooming Books Book Store.” New books are sold to students or parents for $2 each.
  • Price students will have the opportunity to shop for family and friends at the Santa Shop from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • The Weisser Park Second Grade Showcase will begin at 9:10 a.m. The program features performances by the second-grade choir, second-grade piano students, the Weisser Park ORFF Ensemble and the second-grade hip hop class. The Art Gallery will also be open with an exhibit of student work on display.
  • Holland fifth-graders will go caroling from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Towne House Retirement, Arbor Glen, Woodview Assisted Living and McDonald’s. The students will use their performance skills and singing techniques while providing community service.
  • Irwin second-grade mathematicians are welcoming the winter season with a flurry of fabulous math stations. Students will be predicting and measuring the weights of their sweets, lining up candy for linear measuring, making patterns of goodies and graphing candy canes from 10:45-11:45 a.m.
  • Indian Village students and staff collected food, clothing, toys and more for families that will be supported during the holidays. On Friday, the school’s case manager will deliver these items to the families. The generosity of students and staff allowed the school to reach out to more families than originally expected.
