Make 12 Monthly Tax Payments by Creating Your Own Escrow Account Now

Allen County Treasurer Susan Orth is reminding taxpayers that November is the month to sign up for the Monthly Pay plan.

“You will need to apply for the Monthly Payment Plan in the month of November in order to have twelve monthly payments made by November 2010,” said Orth. “The first installment would be pulled from your bank account in December 2009. The 12th installment would fulfill your tax obligation in November 2010.”

If a mortgage company does not escrow your tax payments, the Monthly Pay Plan offered by the Allen County Treasurer’s Office can help budget your tax payments for you.

“Instead of having to come up with two large tax payments each year, you can have smaller monthly payments deducted directly from your checking or savings account,” said Orth.

Once set up, the pay plan does the work of paying taxes each month for you. You will no longer have to make a trip downtown and stand in line at the Treasurer’s office to pay. You won’t have to pay postage to mail in your payment. Best of all, you won’t miss any payments, and that means no late payment penalty.

“The Monthly Pay Plan is also a helpful tool when you need to catch up on delinquent taxes,” Orth added.

Call the Treasurer’s office at 260-449-7693 to find out your balance due. The balance due plus your annual tax amount for 2009 is the base. Divide the base amount by 12; this will give you the monthly payment. You will need to enter the monthly payment into the program. In November 2010 your taxes will be current. Amounts will be adjusted in the spring when the 2010 tax bills are available.
