City, small-business advocates offer intellectual property workshop
Free session aimed at business owners with questions about trademarks, copyrights, patents
The City of Fort Wayne in cooperation with the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce, Women’s Enterprise – A Program of the Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau, Small Business Administration, SCORE, Community Development Corp. and the Indiana Small Business Development Center will offer a free workshop Nov. 19 about trademarks, copyright and patents.
The workshop will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the City’s human resources office on the third floor of the City-County Building. The session is aimed at anyone who has an idea, invention or other intellectual property that wants to know more about trademarks, patents and copyrights.
Abigail Butler, an attorney with Baker & Daniels specializing in intellectual property law, will be the session’s presenter.
Topics to be covered Nov. 19 include:
- What trademarks, copyrights and patents are and what level of protection each offers
- How to secure a trademark, copyright and patent, and the process and cost associated with each
- What to consider when engaging an intellectual property attorney
- International intellectual property considerations
The Nov. 19 workshop will be the final workshop for 2009.
