Downtown Design Survey available online
Survey offers opportunity to compare, evaluate different looks
Mayor Tom Henry invites Fort Wayne residents to complete an online survey as part of the City’s process to update downtown development and design standards. The downtown design survey will provide public input on different building and site design topic areas.
The survey is available on-line. The deadline for responses is Nov. 4.
“The saying goes, ‘downtown is everyone’s neighborhood,'” said Mayor Tom Henry. “So everyone should have a chance to offer an opinion about what we like and what we might want to change about the physical impression of our downtown. I always welcome the chance to hear from our citizens, and this is one more opportunity for anyone interested to fill out the survey and share your opinion with us to help shape public policy.”
A cross-functional internal City team has been working on an update to downtown design standards and guidelines at the direction of City Council. An advisory group made up of external stakeholders is also assisting in the project. Survey participants will have the opportunity to evaluate things like facades, lighting, parking options and landscaping.
The downtown design standards project will become an amendment to the City’s zoning ordinance and the creation of a comprehensive downtown design manual, which will provide design direction and guidance to architects, property owners and developers as well as assist staff and the Plan Commission in reviewing new development and redevelopment projects in downtown Fort Wayne.
