Press release from Allen County:
Non-Profit Career and Services Fair Set for August 19
Allen County and Brown Mackie College team up to sponsor first of its kind event
The Allen County Board of Commissioners and Brown Mackie College today announced plans for a free event aimed at bringing together non-profit organizations which are pursuing employees with persons who’ve lost their jobs and are in need of assistance.
The first-ever Allen County Career and Services Fair will be held Wednesday, August 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Brown Mackie’s Fort Wayne campus located at 3000 East Coliseum Boulevard. 47 agencies from Allen County and the surrounding area are participating in the inaugural event. Those who attend will not only learn about specific services the agencies provide for the unemployed, but also about volunteer opportunities that could assist them in locating a job more quickly.
“The latest unemployment figures indicate that more and more people in our community are in need of help finding work,” said Allen County Commissioner Nelson Peters. “Whether they’re seeking employment, looking for volunteering opportunities to gain experience or in need of a helping hand to get back on their feet, we feel this fair can be of help to our citizens.”
“We are honored and pleased to partner with Allen County Government to host the Career and Services Fair for the Fort Wayne community,” added Jim Bishop, president of Brown Mackie College’s Fort Wayne campus. “Non-profit organizations not only provide valuable community services, but also meaningful employment and volunteer opportunities. We are excited for this opportunity to participate in the national call to service given by President Obama several weeks ago.”
