Greetings from Train Festival 2009 in Owosso, Michigan!
I thought I would write a quick post to explain the banner photo. Â I usually only try to do Fort Wayne images, but this was so beautiful, I couldn’t resist.
It’s been a long day, but productive. Â I cam up without any hopes of capturing any decent photos due to the anticipated crowds. Â They sold 30,000 tickets in advance of this weekend and you know there were probably at least a third more, like myself, that showed up needing to buy one.
The above locomotive, is a completely new locomotive – the Leviathan. It is a 2-2-0 and was completed on June 20, 2009. I can tell you, when the sun is bright, she really sparkles in the sun!
A few specs for those of you so inclined:
- Builder: Kloke Construction
- Cylinders: 16″ x 24″
- Driving Wheels: 60″
- Boiler: 50″ outside diameter
- Boiler Pressure: 160 lbs.
- Flues: 156, 2″ diameter
- Engine and Tender length: 45′
- Engine and Tender weight: 88,000 pounds
- Tender Tank capacity: 2,000 gallons
When I was there today, the crew were understandably busy. Â I am going to try to have an interview for you tomorrow. Â This is a beautiful – under steam – locomotive!
