WHAT: Informational Meeting Regarding Passenger Train Service in Fort Wayne

The Northeast Indiana Passenger Rail Association (NIPRA) and Fort Wayne State Senator Tom Wyss, in cooperation with the City of Fort Wayne, are sponsoring a meeting to update the public on efforts to advance passenger rail service in Indiana. NIPRA is working to make sure that Fort Wayne to Chicago train service is a priority for our state.
Michael Reed, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation, and members of the Rail Section of INDOT, will be in Fort Wayne at the Baker Street Train Station on Thursday July 9, at 4 PM. Senator Wyss is chairman of the Senate Transportation and Homeland Security Committee. The public is invited to attend this meeting. Over 800 people
attended a rally to support this effort at the train station on April 3.INDOT is working on a rail plan to connect Indiana cities to Chicago with passenger rail service. In 2002, Fort Wayne was selected as an intermediary stop on a proposed high speed rail line between Chicago and Cleveland. We are hoping the state will apply for federal stimulus money and direct some of it to the Fort Wayne route.
INDOT officials will be able to discuss this issue and answer other questions regarding the future of rail service in our city and state. Please plan to attend this informative meeting.
