Latino Fest happens today at Foster Park from 9:30 am to 8:00 pm.
Part of the celebration is for the 15th Anniversary of El Mexicano Newspaper, Fort Wayne’s Independent Spanish newspaper. This year, the proceeds will benefit the Jorge Gonzalez Foundation. Jorge Gonzalez needs a Kidney Transplant, but the funds need to be raised before the procedure can occur. An email I received earlier this week stated:
Since last June, more than $53,000 has been raised in the Fort Wayne community–all from events like this and similar fundraisers. This is truly a community response to the need to save a boy’s life. The community has indeed responded but it is not over yet. Riley Hospital said it takes $85,000 to begin the testing of the parents for donor compatability for their son Jorge’.”
There is also a 5K race.
