Volunteers and Projects Needed for United Way Day of Caring

Work projects and volunteers are needed for United Way of Allen County’s 17th annual Day of Caring set for August 14, 2009.

Day of Caring is a communitywide effort to match volunteers with projects such as painting or cleaning at local non-profit agencies and organizations. Approximately 1,000 volunteers take part each year to help improve their community.

Project proposals can be submitted by social service agencies, neighborhood association presidents, churches and the City of Fort Wayne’s Neighborhood Code. Project forms are available online, or by calling United Way of Allen County at 260.422.4776. Projects should be submitted no later than June 12, 2009.

Volunteer teams can also sign up to participate online at www.UnitedWayAllenCounty.org or by calling United Way at (260) 422-4776. Projects are available for teams of any size. Teams should sign up no later than June 30, 2009.

This year’s Day of Caring will focus on neighborhood revitalization within 13 neighborhoods selected in cooperation with the City of Fort Wayne’s community development staff. Neighborhoods include Northcrest, Rudisill-Plaza, Northside, Pettit/Rudisill, Bloomingdale/Nebraska, Village Woods, Brookmill, Southwick Village, South Wayne/Fairfield, Brentwood Park, Harrison Hill, New Haven/Monroeville and Oxfod/Weisser Park. Projects will include cleaning, painting, landscaping or interactive activities at non-profit agencies, schools, child care centers, after-school youth programs and churches. Proposed projects falling outside the selected neighborhoods will also be considered.
