Press release from the City of Fort Wayne:
Fort Wayne continues All America City fundraising efforts at Sunday’s TinCaps game
Special activities include silent auction, free concert after game
The City of Fort Wayne’s All America City bid committee is partnering with the Fort Wayne TinCaps Sunday to help raise money for the committee’s trip next month as they look to put Fort Wayne in the National Civic League Hall of Fame with the third All America City award for the Summit City.
At Sunday’s game, anyone mentioning “All America City” when buying their tickets will have $1 of each ticket purchased donated to the travel scholarships. It will not change the price for the purchaser. A free concert from local band Teays Vein will follow the game.
“Fort Wayne will receive national recognition if we take home our third All America City award, but we first need to raise the money to send a dedicated group of volunteers to Tampa next month,” Mayor Tom Henry said. “We have a lot of pride in our community and having a chance to unite our newest downtown jewel with our All America City efforts is the perfect combination.”
The committee is also hosting a silent auction from 1:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Sunday in the Lincoln Event Center at Parkview Field. Mayor Henry will stop by the event center around 3 p.m.
More than 35 items will be available to bid on including:
- Autographed TinCaps team baseball, bat or jersey
- Vera Bradley items
- Lunch with Mayor Tom Henry
- Artwork from local artists
- Restaurant gift certificates
- Travel vouchers for round-trip tickets to Las Vegas and Orlando
- Gift baskets from a variety of vendors
- Mad Ants season tickets
- Tickets to the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and Fort Wayne Civic Theatre
- Behind-the-scenes tour of Parkview Field
- Passes or tickets to local attractions
- A set of four Firestone tires
People can attend the silent auction without attending Sunday’s game. Anyone wanting to bid on items but not attend the game can tell an attendant at any Parkview Field entrance gate they are there for the auction.
A delegation of about 30 volunteers will travel to Tampa, Florida, June 17 to 19 to compete for the National Civic League’s 2009 All-America City Award. In order to earn this prestigious designation, support is needed from residents and the business community to support the delegation with travel scholarships and other costs associated with going to Tampa. Fort Wayne is one of 30 finalists for the award; 10 winners will be selected.
