The Journal Gazette is reporting about the Charis House’s latest plans to build on Fairmount Place:
[…]Â The revised plans call for a 78-bed shelter called Charis House to be built on the south side of Fairmount Place, a dead-end street off Wells Street. The two-story shelter would have about 20,000 square feet of space and cost $3.75 million, said Tuck Hopkins, Fort Wayne Rescue Ministries’ board chairman.
[…] The City Council’s concerns reversed the project’s direction, he said.
“Because of that we essentially couldn’t build a bigger building and keep the street,” he said.
Board members decided to remove a wing to address the City Council’s concerns, Hopkins said. If the project is approved, Fort Wayne Rescue Ministries hopes to open the shelter this winter.
[…] Plan commission members will consider the project’s layout next month. The public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 11 in Room 126 of the City-County Building.
