An announcement was made last week by Fifth Third Bank that they are relocating to the first floor of the Metro Building. Â This has been a long time in the making. Â A couple of years ago, it was rumored they would be purchasing part of the parking lot along Harrison Street between Main and Pearl Street. Â That deal fell through and I remember speaking with a couple of their employees at a Harrison Square function last year. Â They had told me at that point that land was hard to come by in the downtown area. Â It’s good to see they have finally worked something out as I know they’re extremely cramped in the building they now occupy next to the Lincoln Tower.
From Friday’s Journal Gazette:
Fifth Third Bank is investing $2 million in a downtown headquarters three blocks from its current location.
The Cincinnati-based bank will start renovations to 8,000 square feet of the first floor of the Metro Building, 202 W. Berry St., on Monday. Kent Maggard, Fifth Third’s northeast Indiana community president, expects the branch to be up and running in early spring.
The eight-story building, owned by local developer Bill Bean, will be renamed the Fifth Third Metro Center.
[…]Â Fifth Third, which operates eight branches in Allen County, will notify downtown customers 30 days before the move. Accounts will automatically transfer to the new location. The company has $115 billion in assets and operates in 12 states.
